I’d like to start by introducing myself. My name is Alyssa and I’m currently a pharmacy technician, a wife, a mother and a non-traditional student at Plymouth State University. I’ve always been an introvert and liked geeky things, like math, science, comics, video games… etc. I never felt drawn to any one thing, so when I graduated high school I decided to not attend college right off. If I knew for sure, 100% positive, what I wanted to be, only then would I apply for college and pursue it. Until then, I was going to see what life gave me.
My entire world went upside down the day I had my daughter, and I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be in the position that I’m in if it wasn’t for her. As any parent can tell you, they want the best for their kids and will do almost anything for them. I’ve noticed that the best way to lead is by example so I decided to not just “tell” her what to do but to also “be” the person that I would like her to be. I’m still the same timid person inside, but by looking at myself the way that I look at her, I’m able to be happier and more confident in my decisions.
At work, I felt like I was being pushed aside, despite pushing myself to my limits. I knew I didn’t want my daughter to be stuck in an unhappy job forever, so I looked around for something else. I happened to get an interview for another position, and it turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made. I liked being a pharmacy technician so much that I decided to work towards becoming a pharmacist and getting my PharmD.
And that brings me here. Pharmacy is a mixture of multiple disciplines, including biology and chemistry and others. This is just a small part of my journey, and I’m glad to be able to share it with you.
